[297] Having gone out from the gate of the monastery, I spread gosīsa sandalwood (gosīsa);
I experience my own kamma — this is the fruit of former kamma.
Thoroughbred Sindh steeds, swift as the wind, swift mounts —
all this I experience: this is the fruit of the gosīsa sandalwood.
Oh, the service — a supreme service — well done by me in the excellent field!
No other [deed] is worth even a fraction of the service rendered to the Saṅgha.
In the ninety-fourth eon (kappa) from now, since I spread that sandalwood,
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of the spreading.
In the seventy-fifth eon I was one [king] named Supatiṭṭhita,
a wheel-turning monarch (cakkavatti) of great majesty and great might.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Gosīsanikkhepaka spoke these verses.
