[373] Having seen the resplendent¹ pāṭali (trumpet-flower tree), a tree sprung from the earth,
I raised my joined palms (añjali) to one shoulder and paid homage to the pāṭali.
Holding up my joined palms and making my mind reverent
toward him who is pure within, pure without, well liberated, without taints (āsava) —
Vipassī, honored by the world, the ocean of compassion and knowledge (ñāṇa) —
as if face to face with the Fully Awakened One, I paid homage to the pāṭali.
It was in the ninety-first eon from now that I paid homage to that Bodhi;
I know of no bad destination — this is the fruit of paying homage.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā), and these eight liberations (vimokkha) as well,
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized; the Buddha's teaching has been done.
Thus indeed the Venerable Elder Bodhivandaka spoke these verses.
