[372] On the bank of the river Candabhāgā I was then a kinnara;
then I saw¹ the God of Gods, the Bull among Men, walking in meditation.
Having plucked a salaḷa flower, I gave it to the Best of Buddhas;²
the Great Hero smelled the salaḷa, endowed with divine fragrance.
Having accepted it, the Fully Awakened One Vipassī, the Leader of the World,
the Great Hero, smelled it then, as I was looking on.³
With a mind full of confidence, glad at heart, having paid homage to the Supreme among Two-footed Beings,
raising my joined palms in reverence, I climbed the mountain once more.
In the ninety-first aeon from now, in that I honoured him with that flower,
I know of no bad destination (duggati): this is the fruit of worshipping the Buddha (buddhapūjā).
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā) and also these eight liberations (vimokkha),
the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized: the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.
Thus indeed did the Venerable Salaḷapupphiya Thera speak these verses.
The Apadāna of the Elder Salaḷapupphiya is concluded.
