[113] Then we boarded¹ a ship,
a bhikkhu and I, an Ājīvaka;²
as the ship was breaking up,
the bhikkhu gave me the refuge (saraṇa).
In the thirty-first aeon (kappa) from now,
since he gave me that refuge,
I know of no bad destination:
this is the fruit of going for refuge (saraṇagamana).
My defilements (kilesa) have been burned away,
all existences (bhava) have been rooted out;
like an elephant that has burst its bonds,
I dwell without taints (āsava).
Welcome indeed was my coming
into the presence of my Buddha;
the three true knowledges (vijjā) have been attained,
the Buddha's teaching (sāsana) has been fulfilled.
The four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā),
and these eight liberations (vimokkha),
and the six superknowledges (chaḷabhiññā) have been realized,
the Buddha's teaching has been fulfilled.

Thus indeed the Venerable Saraṇagamaniya Thera spoke these verses.
