Abhidhammapiṭaka · Dhammasaṅgaṇī · Vol. 34 · Section 420

[420] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)? On the occasion when one develops the path (magga) for rebirth in the formless realm (arūpūpapatti) and — with the complete transcending of the sphere of infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana), with the abandoning of pleasure (sukha) … — attains and dwells in the fourth jhāna accompanied by the perception (saññā) of the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana), on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome (kusala). As the result (vipāka) of that same wholesome kamma pertaining to the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), because it has been done and accumulated, one — with the complete transcending of the sphere of infinity of consciousness, with the abandoning of pleasure … — attains and dwells in the fourth jhāna accompanied by the perception of the sphere of nothingness; on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate.
