[469] Which phenomena (dhammā) are indeterminate (abyākata)?
On the occasion when one develops the supramundane (lokuttara) path (magga) … develops the supramundane establishment of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) … develops the supramundane right exertion (sammappadhāna) … develops the supramundane basis for success (iddhipāda) … develops the supramundane faculty (indriya) … develops the supramundane power (bala) … develops the supramundane factor of awakening (bojjhaṅga) … develops the supramundane truth (sacca) … develops the supramundane serenity (samatha) … develops the supramundane dhamma … develops the supramundane aggregate (khandha) … develops the supramundane sense base (āyatana) … develops the supramundane element (dhātu) … develops the supramundane nutriment (āhāra) … develops the supramundane contact (phassa) … develops the supramundane feeling (vedanā) … develops the supramundane perception (saññā) … develops the supramundane volition (cetanā) … develops the supramundane mind (citta) — leading out [of the round] (niyyānika), tending to dismantling (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first plane (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one attains and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipada dandhābhiñña), with zeal as the dominant factor (chandādhipateyya) — on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa) … These phenomena are wholesome.
As the result (vipāka) of that same supramundane wholesome mind, because it has been done, because it has been developed: quite secluded from sensual pleasures … one attains and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge — empty (suññata) … signless (animitta) … desireless (appaṇihita) — with zeal as the dominant factor … with energy as the dominant factor … with mind as the dominant factor … with investigation (vīmaṃsā) as the dominant factor: on that occasion there is contact … there is non-distraction … These phenomena are indeterminate.
The Result of the First Path.
