[563] Which form (rūpa) is the eye sense base (cakkhāyatana)? That eye which is sensitivity (pasāda) derived from the four primary elements (mahābhūta) … this too is "an empty village" — this is that form which is the eye sense base. Which form is not the eye sense base? The ear sense base (sotāyatana) … edible nutriment (kabaḷiṅkāra āhāra) — this is that form which is not the eye sense base.
