[578] Which form is the space element (ākāsadhātu)? That which is space (ākāsa), what pertains to space; void (agha), what pertains to void; gap (vivara), what pertains to gap; untouched by the four primary elements (mahābhūta) — this form is the space element. Which form is not the space element? The eye base (cakkhāyatana) … edible food (kabaḷīkāra āhāra) — this form is not the space element.
