[564] Which is that form (rūpa) that is the ear base (sotāyatana)? … the nose base (ghānāyatana)? … the tongue base (jivhāyatana)? … the body base (kāyāyatana)? That body which is sensitivity (pasāda) derived from the four primary elements (mahābhūta) … this, too, is "an empty village" (suñño gāmo) — this is that form that is the body base. Which is that form that is not the body base? The eye base (cakkhāyatana) … edible nutriment (kabaḷiṅkāra āhāra) — this is that form that is not the body base.
