[81] Which, on that occasion, is the five-factored path (pañcaṅgiko maggo)?
Right view (sammādiṭṭhi), right thought (sammāsaṅkappa), right effort (sammāvāyāma), right mindfulness (sammāsati), right concentration (sammāsamādhi).
Which, on that occasion, is right view?
That which on that occasion is wisdom (paññā), understanding, investigation, close investigation, investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), discernment, close discernment, specific discernment, erudition, proficiency, subtlety, lucidity, reflection, examination, breadth, sagacity, guidance, insight (vipassanā), clear comprehension (sampajañña), the goad [of wisdom], wisdom, the faculty of wisdom, the power of wisdom, wisdom as a sword, wisdom as a palace, wisdom as light, wisdom as radiance, wisdom as a lamp, wisdom as a gem, non-delusion, investigation of dhammas, right view — this, on that occasion, is right view.
Which, on that occasion, is right thought?
That which on that occasion is thinking, thought-conception, intention, fixing [of the mind], firm fixing, application of the mind, right thought — this, on that occasion, is right thought.
Which, on that occasion, is right effort?
That which on that occasion is the mental arousing of energy (vīriya), striving, persistence, exertion, effort, industry, endurance, vigor, steadfastness, unfaltering persistence, the state of not relinquishing zeal (chanda), the state of not laying down the task, the firm upholding of the task, energy, the faculty of energy, the power of energy, right effort — this, on that occasion, is right effort.
Which, on that occasion, is right mindfulness?
That which on that occasion is mindfulness (sati), recollection, remembrance, mindfulness, the act of remembering, retention, non-superficiality, non-forgetfulness, mindfulness, the faculty of mindfulness, the power of mindfulness, right mindfulness — this, on that occasion, is right mindfulness.
Which, on that occasion, is right concentration?
That which on that occasion is the stability of the mind (citta), steadiness, steadfastness, non-wavering, non-distraction, the state of an unwavering mind, calm (samatha), the faculty of concentration, the power of concentration, right concentration — this, on that occasion, is right concentration.
