[83] Which are the three roots (hetu) present on that occasion? Non-greed (alobha), non-hatred (adosa), and non-delusion (amoha).
Which is the non-greed present on that occasion? That which on that occasion is non-greed, not being greedy, the state of not being greedy; non-lust (asārāga), not lusting, the state of not lusting; non-covetousness (anabhijjhā); non-greed, the wholesome root (kusala-mūla) — this is the non-greed present on that occasion.
Which is the non-hatred present on that occasion? That which on that occasion is non-hatred, not hating, the state of not hating; non-ill will (abyāpāda), non-malevolence (abyāpajjha); non-hatred, the wholesome root — this is the non-hatred present on that occasion.
Which is the non-delusion present on that occasion? That which on that occasion is wisdom (paññā), understanding, investigation, thorough investigation, investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), discernment, discrimination, direct discrimination, erudition, proficiency, subtlety, clarification, consideration, close examination, breadth, sagacity, guidance, insight (vipassanā), clear comprehension (sampajañña), the goad (patoda); wisdom, the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya), the power of wisdom (paññābala), the sword of wisdom, the palace of wisdom, the light of wisdom, the radiance of wisdom, the lamp of wisdom, the jewel of wisdom; non-delusion, investigation of dhammas, right view (sammādiṭṭhi); non-delusion, the wholesome root — this is the non-delusion present on that occasion.
