[841] Which phenomena (dhammā) are designations (adhivacanā)?
Whatever is the reckoning (saṅkhā), appellation (samaññā), concept (paññatti), current usage (vohāra), name (nāma), act of naming (nāmakamma), assignment of a name (nāmadheyya), linguistic expression (nirutti), phrasing (byañjana), or utterance (abhilāpa) of this or that phenomenon — these phenomena are designations.
All phenomena whatsoever are pathways of designation (adhivacanapatha).
