Abhidhammapiṭaka · Dhammasaṅgaṇī · Vol. 34 · Section 975

[975] Which phenomena (dhammā) are with sustained thought (savicāra)? The sense-sphere wholesome (kāmāvacara-kusala); the unwholesome (akusala); eleven arisings of mind (cittuppāda) as resultant (vipāka) of the sense-sphere wholesome; two as resultant of the unwholesome; eleven as functional (kiriyā); the one-and-two jhānas of the form sphere (rūpāvacara-ekadukajjhāna), as wholesome, as resultant, and as functional; the one-and-two jhānas of the supramundane (lokuttara), as wholesome and as resultant — setting aside the sustained thought (vicāra) arisen therein: these phenomena are with sustained thought. Which phenomena are without sustained thought (avicāra)? The two [sets of] fivefold consciousness (pañcaviññāṇa); the three-and-three jhānas of the form sphere (rūpāvacara-tikatikajjhāna), as wholesome, as resultant, and as functional; the four formless [attainments] (āruppa), as wholesome, as resultant, and as functional; the three-and-three jhānas of the supramundane, as wholesome and as resultant; sustained thought, form (rūpa), and Nibbāna — these phenomena are without sustained thought.
