How many are without an object?
The aggregate of form is without an object. Four aggregates sometimes have an object that has an object, sometimes have an object that is without an object.
Ten sense bases (āyatana) are without an object. The mind base (manāyatana) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object. The dhamma base (dhammāyatana) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object, sometimes is without an object.
Ten elements (dhātu) are without an object. Six elements have an object that is without an object. The mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇadhātu) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object. The dhamma element (dhammadhātu) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object, sometimes is without an object.
The truth of cessation (nirodhasacca) is without an object. The truth of the path (maggasacca) has an object that is without an object. The truth of the origin (samudayasacca) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object. The truth of suffering (dukkhasacca) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object, sometimes is without an object.
Seven faculties (indriya) are without an object. Five faculties have an object that is without an object. Nine faculties sometimes have an object that has an object, sometimes have an object that is without an object. The life faculty (jīvitindriya) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object, sometimes is without an object.
Nine roots (hetu) sometimes have an object that has an object, sometimes have an object that is without an object.
Edible nutriment (kabaḷiṅkāra āhāra) is without an object. Three nutriments sometimes have an object that has an object, sometimes have an object that is without an object.
Six contacts (phassa) have an object that is without an object. Contact of the mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇadhātusamphassa) sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object.
Six feelings (vedanā), six perceptions (saññā), six volitions (cetanā), six minds have an object that is without an object. The mind-consciousness element sometimes has an object that has an object, sometimes has an object that is without an object.
