[175] Therein, what is the practice leading to the cessation of suffering (dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā)?
Here a bhikkhu, on the occasion when he develops the supramundane jhāna (lokuttaraṃ jhānaṃ) — leading out (of the round), going to the dismantling (of accumulation) — for the abandoning of wrong views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi); when, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, … he enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ dandhābhiññaṃ) — on that occasion there is the eightfold path (aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo): right view (sammādiṭṭhi) … right concentration (sammāsamādhi).
