[199] Therein, what is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering (dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā)? Here, on the occasion when a bhikkhu develops supramundane jhāna (lokuttara jhāna) — leading out (of the round), tending to dispersion — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhā paṭipadā dandhābhiññā) — on that occasion there is the eightfold path (aṭṭhaṅgika magga): right view (sammādiṭṭhi) … right concentration (sammāsamādhi). This is called the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering. The remaining phenomena (dhammā) are associated with the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering.
