[222] Therein, which is the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering (dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā)?
Here, on the occasion when a bhikkhu develops supramundane jhāna (lokuttara jhāna)—leading out [of the round], conducing to dispersion—for the abandoning of [wrong] views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi): quite secluded from sensual pleasures … he enters and dwells in the first jhāna, which is of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ dandhābhiññaṃ)—on that occasion there is contact (phassa) … there is non-distraction (avikkhepa). This is called the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering.
