[239] Therein, what is the bodily-pleasure faculty (sukhindriya)? That which is bodily comfort, bodily pleasure; the comfortable, pleasant experience (vedayita) born of body-contact (kāyasamphassa); the comfortable, pleasant feeling (vedanā) born of body-contact — this is called the bodily-pleasure faculty.
Therein, what is the bodily-pain faculty (dukkhindriya)? That which is bodily discomfort, bodily pain; the uncomfortable, painful experience born of body-contact; the uncomfortable, painful feeling born of body-contact — this is called the bodily-pain faculty.
Therein, what is the joy faculty (somanassindriya)? That which is mental comfort, mental pleasure; the comfortable, pleasant experience born of mind-contact (cetosamphassa); the comfortable, pleasant feeling born of mind-contact — this is called the joy faculty.
Therein, what is the grief faculty (domanassindriya)? That which is mental discomfort, mental pain; the uncomfortable, painful experience born of mind-contact; the uncomfortable, painful feeling born of mind-contact — this is called the grief faculty.
Therein, what is the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya)? That which is neither mental comfort nor mental discomfort; the neither-painful-nor-pleasant experience born of mind-contact; the neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling born of mind-contact — this is called the equanimity faculty.
