That which is faith (saddhā), the act of trusting (saddahanā), settled confidence (okappanā), deep confidence (abhippasāda); faith, the faculty of faith, the power of faith — this is called the faculty of faith.
Therein, what is the faculty of energy (viriyindriya)?
That which is the mental (cetasika) arousing of energy (viriyārambha), striving (nikkama), exertion (parakkama), endeavour (uyyāma), effort (vāyāma), zeal (ussāha), perseverance (ussoḷhī), vigour (thāma), steadfastness (dhiti), the state of unrelenting exertion (asithilaparakkamatā), the state of not relinquishing desire (anikkhittachandatā), the state of not laying down the task (anikkhittadhuratā), the firm upholding of the task (dhurasampaggāha); energy (viriya), the faculty of energy, the power of energy, right effort (sammāvāyāma) — this is called the faculty of energy.
Therein, what is the faculty of mindfulness (satindriya)?
That which is mindfulness (sati), recollection (anussati), recall (paṭissati), mindfulness, the state of remembering (saraṇatā), the state of bearing in mind (dhāraṇatā), the state of not floating (apilāpanatā), the state of not forgetting (asammusanatā); mindfulness, the faculty of mindfulness, the power of mindfulness, right mindfulness (sammāsati) — this is called the faculty of mindfulness.
Therein, what is the faculty of concentration (samādhindriya)?
That which is stability (ṭhiti) of the mind (citta), steadiness (saṇṭhiti), steadfastness (avaṭṭhiti), absence of wavering (avisāhāra), absence of scatteredness (avikkhepa), the state of a mind that is not drawn away (avisāhaṭamānasatā), calm (samatha), the faculty of concentration, the power of concentration, right concentration (sammāsamādhi) — this is called the faculty of concentration.
Therein, what is the faculty of wisdom (paññindriya)?
That which is wisdom (paññā), understanding (pajānanā), investigation (vicaya), close examination (pavicaya) … non-delusion (amoha), investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya), right view (sammādiṭṭhi) — this is called the faculty of wisdom.
