[320] Therein, what is ignorance (avijjā)? That which is lack of knowledge, lack of vision, … the bar of ignorance, delusion (moha), the unwholesome root — this is called ignorance. Therein, what is the volitional formation (saṅkhāra), with ignorance as condition, associated with ignorance? That which is volition (cetanā), intention, the state of intending — this is called the volitional formation, with ignorance as condition, associated with ignorance. Therein, what is the consciousness (viññāṇa), with the volitional formation as condition, associated with the volitional formation? That which is mind (citta), mentality (mano), mentation (mānasa), … the corresponding mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇa-dhātu) — this is called the consciousness, with the volitional formation as condition, associated with the volitional formation. Therein, what is the name (nāma), with consciousness as condition, associated with consciousness? The aggregate (khandha) of feeling (vedanā), the aggregate of perception (saññā), the aggregate of volitional formations — this is called the name, with consciousness as condition, associated with consciousness. Therein, what is the sixth sense base (chaṭṭhāyatana), with name as condition, associated with name? That which is mind, mentality, mentation, … the corresponding mind-consciousness element — this is called the sixth sense base, with name as condition, associated with name. Therein, what is the contact (phassa), with the sixth sense base as condition, associated with the sixth sense base? That which is contact, contacting, full contacting, the state of full contact — this is called the contact, with the sixth sense base as condition, associated with the sixth sense base. Therein, what is the feeling, with contact as condition, associated with contact? That which is mental ease, mental pleasure; the easeful, pleasant state experienced, born of mind-contact (cetosamphassa); the easeful, pleasant feeling born of mind-contact — this is called the feeling, with contact as condition, associated with contact. Therein, what is the craving (taṇhā), with feeling as condition, associated with feeling? That which is lust (rāga), infatuation, … infatuation of the mind — this is called the craving, with feeling as condition, associated with feeling. Therein, what is the clinging (upādāna), with craving as condition, associated with craving? That which is view (diṭṭhi), resorting to views, … the ground of sectarian tenets (titthāyatana), perverted grasping — this is called the clinging, with craving as condition, associated with craving. … Therefore it is said: "Thus there is the origin of this whole mass of suffering (dukkha)."
