Saṁmappadhānavibhaṅgasuttantabhājanīya

[471] "Strives" (padahati): Therein, what is striving (padhāna)? That which is the mental (cetasika) inception of energy (viriyārambha) … right effort (sammāvāyāma) — this is called striving. With this striving one is endowed … possessed; therefore it is said, "strives."
