[487] "Arouses energy" (vīriyaṃ ārabhati): therein, what is energy (vīriya)? That which is the mental arousing of energy (vīriyārambha) … right effort (sammāvāyāma), the energy factor of awakening (vīriya-sambojjhaṅga), a path factor (maggaṅga), included in the path (maggapariyāpanna) — this is called energy. He arouses, thoroughly arouses, cultivates, develops, and makes much of this energy. Therefore it is said: "arouses energy."
