Saṁmappadhānavibhaṅgasuttantabhājanīya

[475] "He arouses energy (viriya)": therein, what is energy? That which is mental arousing of energy … right effort (sammāvāyāma) — this is called energy. This energy he arouses, thoroughly arouses, practises, develops, and makes much of. Therefore it is said, "he arouses energy."
