Saṁmappadhānavibhaṅgasuttantabhājanīya

[476] "Exerts the mind (cittaṃ paggaṇhāti)": herein, which is the mind (citta)? That which is mind, mentality (mano), mentation (mānasa) … the corresponding mind-consciousness element (tajjā manoviññāṇa-dhātu) — this is called mind. He exerts, fully exerts, supports, and firmly supports this mind. Therefore it is said, "exerts the mind."
