[541] [The four bases of success (iddhipāda)] are not clingings (upādāna) … are not defilements (kilesa) … are not to be abandoned by seeing (dassana), are not to be abandoned by development (bhāvanā), do not have roots to be abandoned by seeing, do not have roots to be abandoned by development; may be with thought-conception (savitakka), may be without thought-conception (avitakka); may be with discursive thought (savicāra), may be without discursive thought (avicāra); may be with rapture (sappītika), may be without rapture (appītika); may be accompanied by rapture (pītisahagata), may not be accompanied by rapture; may be accompanied by pleasure (sukhasahagata), may not be accompanied by pleasure; may be accompanied by equanimity (upekkhāsahagata), may not be accompanied by equanimity; are not of the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), are not of the form sphere (rūpāvacara), are not of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara); are unincluded (apariyāpanna), leading out (niyyānika), fixed [in result] (niyata), unsurpassed (anuttara), without conflict (araṇa).
