[548] Therein, what is the awakening factor of rapture (pīti-sambojjhaṅga)?
There is rapture (pīti) with thought (vitakka) and examination (vicāra); there is rapture without thought and examination. Whatever rapture is with thought and examination, that too is the awakening factor of rapture; it leads to direct knowledge (abhiññā), to full awakening (sambodha), to Nibbāna. Whatever rapture is without thought and examination, that too is the awakening factor of rapture; it leads to direct knowledge, to full awakening, to Nibbāna.
