[597] [The eight path factors are] with condition (sappaccaya), conditioned (saṅkhata), invisible (anidassana), non-impinging (appaṭigha), immaterial (arūpa), supramundane (lokuttara), cognizable by some [consciousness] (kenaci viññeyya), not cognizable by some (kenaci na viññeyya). They are not taints (āsava); they are not subject to taints (anāsava); they are dissociated from taints (āsavavippayutta); they cannot be described either as "both taints and subject to taints" or as "subject to taints but not taints"; they cannot be described either as "both taints and associated with taints" or as "associated with taints but not taints"; they are dissociated from taints and not subject to taints.
