[628] "He purifies the mind (citta) from covetousness (abhijjhā)": herein, what is covetousness?
That which is lust (rāga), strong lust (sārāga), … strong lust of the mind — this is called covetousness.
Herein, what is the mind?
That which is mind, intellect (mano), mentality (mānasa), … the corresponding mind-consciousness element (tajjā manoviññāṇadhātu) — this is called the mind.
He cleanses, thoroughly cleanses, and purifies this mind from this covetousness; he frees it, liberates it, and fully releases it. Therefore it is said: "he purifies the mind from covetousness."
