[629] "Having abandoned ill will and malice": there is ill will (byāpāda); there is malice (padosa).
Therein, what is ill will? That which is resentment (āghāta) of the mind (citta), hostility (paṭighāta), repulsion (paṭigha), antagonism, irritation, indignation, thorough indignation, hatred (dosa), malice, thorough malice, malevolence (byāpatti) of the mind, mental malice, anger (kodha), the act of being angry, the state of being angry, hatred, the act of hating, the state of being hateful, malevolence, the act of being malevolent, the state of being malevolent, opposition, antagonism, ferocity, abruptness, displeasure of the mind — this is called ill will.
Therein, what is malice? That which is ill will is malice; that which is malice is ill will.
Thus, this ill will and this malice are calmed, stilled, allayed, ended, utterly ended, destroyed, utterly destroyed, withered, utterly withered, done away with; therefore it is said: "having abandoned ill will and malice."
