[879] Therein, what is cajolery (lapanā)? For one dependent on gain, honor, and fame, of evil desires, overcome by desire: whatever addressing of others, cajoling, conversing, talking up, continual talking up, wheedling, continual wheedling, extolling, continual extolling, ingratiating talk (anuppiyabhāṇitā), obsequiousness (pātukamyatā), "bean-soup" talk (muggasūpatā), acting as nursemaid (pāribhaṭyatā) — this is called cajolery.
