[881] Therein, what is belittling (nippesikatā)? On the part of one dependent on gain, honor, and fame (lābha-sakkāra-siloka), one of evil desires, overcome by desire: that which is the abusing of others, disparaging, reproaching, sneering, continual sneering, ridiculing, continual ridiculing, denigrating, continual denigrating, the carrying about of dispraise, backbiting — this is called belittling.
