[891] Therein, what is the conceit (māna) "I am inferior" of one who is equal? Here someone is equal by birth, or by clan, or by being of good family, … by one or another basis; he regards himself as inferior to others. In dependence on that he conceives self-disparagement (omāna). That which is of such a kind — self-disparagement, the act of disparaging oneself, the state of disparaging oneself, despising, utter despising, the state of utter despising, self-contempt, self-disdain, self-scorn — this is called the conceit "I am inferior" of one who is equal.
