Abhidhammapiṭaka · Vibhaṅga · Vol. 35 · Section 894

[894] Therein, which is the conceit (māna) "I am inferior" of one who is inferior? Here someone is inferior by birth (jāti), or by clan, or by family standing, … On one or another ground he regards himself as inferior to others. In dependence on that, he conceives self-abasement (omāna). That which, of such a kind, is self-abasement, the act of self-abasing, the state of being self-abased, scorning, utter scorning, the state of being utterly scorned, contempt for oneself, disdain for oneself, despising of oneself — this is called the conceit "I am inferior" of one who is inferior.
