[1123] S. (Sakavādin): Dependent on the eye (cakkhu) and the eye faculty (cakkhundriya), eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa) arises? P. (Paravādin): Yes. S.: Is there indeed a discourse (suttanta) that says: "Dependent on the eye and the eye faculty, eye-consciousness arises"? P.: There is not. S.: Is there indeed a discourse that says: "Dependent on the eye and forms (rūpa), eye-consciousness arises"? P.: Yes. S.: If there is indeed a discourse that says, "Dependent on the eye and forms, eye-consciousness arises," then indeed, sir, it should not be said: "Dependent on the eye and the eye faculty, eye-consciousness arises."
