[1519] S. Is a person who has instigated [a deed of] immediate [retribution] (anantarāpayutta) incapable of entering the fixed course of rightness (sammattaniyāma)? P. Yes. S. Has [his] mother been deprived of life, [his] father been deprived of life, an Arahant been deprived of life, the blood of the Tathāgata been shed with a malicious mind (citta), the Saṅgha been divided? P. It should not be said thus. … S. Is a person who has instigated [a deed of] immediate [retribution], having retracted that deed (kamma), having dispelled worry (kukkucca), having removed remorse (vippaṭisāra), incapable of entering the fixed course of rightness? P. Yes. S. Has [his] mother been deprived of life, [his] father been deprived of life, … the Saṅgha been divided? P. It should not be said thus. … S. Is a person who has instigated [a deed of] immediate [retribution], having retracted that deed, having dispelled worry, having removed remorse, incapable of entering the fixed course of rightness? P. Yes. S. Has not that deed been retracted, the worry been dispelled, the remorse been removed? P. Yes. S. If that deed has been retracted, the worry dispelled, the remorse removed, then indeed it should not be said: "A person who has instigated [a deed of] immediate [retribution], having retracted that deed, having dispelled worry, having removed remorse, is incapable of entering the fixed course of rightness."
