[1530] P. Should it not be said: "One who has entered upon an attainment (samāpanno) enjoys [it]; delight (nikanti) in jhāna has jhāna as its object (ārammaṇa)"?
S. Yes.
P. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, … enters upon and dwells in the first jhāna. He enjoys that, longs for that, and finds gladness through that. With the stilling of thought (vitakka) and examination (vicāra), … the second jhāna … the third jhāna … he enters upon and dwells in the fourth jhāna. He enjoys that, longs for that, and finds gladness through that" — is there indeed such a discourse?
S. Yes.
P. In that case, one who has entered upon an attainment does enjoy [it], and delight in jhāna does have jhāna as its object.
