"What does the person practising for the realization (sacchikiriyā) of the fruit of stream-entry (sotāpattiphala) abandon by the seeing of suffering (dukkha)?" — "He abandons, in part, personality-view (sakkāyadiṭṭhi), doubt (vicikicchā), adherence to rules and rituals (sīlabbataparāmāsa), and the defilements standing together with them (tadekaṭṭha)."
"Is he in one part a stream-enterer (sotāpanna) and in one part not a stream-enterer? Has he in one part attained, obtained, reached, and realized the fruit of stream-entry — does he dwell having entered upon it, dwell having contacted it with the body — and in one part does he not dwell having contacted it with the body? Is he in one part one who will be reborn seven times at most (sattakkhattuparama), one who goes from clan to clan (kolaṃkola), a one-seeder (ekabījī), endowed with unwavering confidence (aveccappasāda) in the Buddha, in the Dhamma … in the Saṅgha … endowed with the virtues dear to the noble ones, and in one part not endowed with the virtues dear to the noble ones?" — "It should not be said thus." …
