A worldling (puthujjana) abandons sensual lust (kāmarāga) and ill will (byāpāda); yet he does not abandon them absolutely, does not abandon them without remainder, does not abandon them in such a way that they cannot re-link (appaṭisandhi), does not abandon them together with the root, does not abandon them together with craving (taṇhā), does not abandon them together with the latent tendency (anusaya), does not abandon them by noble knowledge (ñāṇa), does not abandon them by the noble path (magga), does not abandon them while penetrating the unshakeable (akuppa), does not abandon them while realizing the fruition of non-returning (anāgāmi-phala) — is that so?
P. Yes.
S. A person practicing for the realization (sacchikiriyā) of the fruition of non-returning abandons sensual lust and ill will; yet he does not abandon them absolutely … does not abandon them while realizing the fruition of non-returning — is that so?
