[613] [Paravādin:] Should it not be said: "There is vocal utterance (vacībheda) for one who has attained (samāpanna)"?
[Sakavādin:] Yes.
[Paravādin:] Was it not declared by the Blessed One that speech has thought-conception (vitakka) as its origin (vitakkasamuṭṭhānā vācā)? And does not one who has attained the first jhāna (paṭhamaṃ jhānaṃ) have thought-conception and discursive thought (vicāra)?
[Sakavādin:] Yes.
[Paravādin:] If speech was declared by the Blessed One to have thought-conception as its origin, and one who has attained the first jhāna has thought-conception and discursive thought, then indeed, good sir, you should say: "There is vocal utterance for one who has attained."
