[614] [Sakavādin:] Speech has been declared by the Blessed One to have thought-conception (vitakka) as its origin (samuṭṭhāna), and one who has attained the first jhāna has thought-conception and discursive thought (vitakka-vicāra) — does he, then, have utterance of speech (vacībheda)?
[Paravādin:] Yes.
[Sakavādin:] Speech has been declared by the Blessed One to have perception (saññā) as its origin, and one who has attained the second jhāna has perception — does he, then, have thought-conception and discursive thought?
