[617] [Sakavādin:] "'For one who has attained (samāpanna) the first jhāna, speech has ceased (niruddhā)' — such a sutta (suttanta) does indeed exist; and yet does utterance of speech (vacībheda) exist for him?" [Paravādin:] "Yes." [Sakavādin:] "'For one who has attained the second jhāna, thought-conception (vitakka) and discursive thought (vicāra) have ceased' — such a sutta does indeed exist; and yet do thought-conception and discursive thought exist for him?" [Paravādin:] "It should not be said thus. …"
