[619] P. Should it not be said, "There is vocal utterance (vacībheda) for one who has attained (samāpanna)"? S. Yes. P. But was not sound said by the Blessed One to be a thorn (kaṇṭaka) to the first jhāna? S. Yes. #1 Saṃ. Saḷāyat. 268. P. If sound was said by the Blessed One to be a thorn to the first jhāna, then indeed, sir, it should be said, "There is vocal utterance for one who has attained."
