[711] P. Are not the taints (āsava) of the Tathāgata destroyed, and the taints of a disciple also destroyed?
S. Yes.
P. Is there any difference between the Tathāgata's destruction of the taints (āsavakkhaya) and the disciple's destruction of the taints, or between the Tathāgata's liberation (vimutti) and the disciple's liberation?
S. There is not.
P. If there is no difference between the Tathāgata's destruction of the taints and the disciple's destruction of the taints, or between the Tathāgata's liberation and the disciple's liberation, then indeed, sir, you should say: "The knowledge (ñāṇa) as it really is (yathābhūta) of the destruction of the taints — a power of the Tathāgata (tathāgatabala) — is shared with disciples (sāvakasādhāraṇa)."
