[1286] For whom and where the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya), and the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) do not lie latent — does the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) not lie latent for that person there?
Yes.
Or, for whom and where the latent tendency of lust for existence does not lie latent — do the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt not lie latent for that person there?
For an ordinary person (puthujjana) in painful feeling (dukkhā vedanā), the latent tendency of lust for existence, the latent tendency of sensual lust, and the latent tendency of conceit do not lie latent for that person there, but it is not the case that the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent for that person there. For that same person in the two feelings in the sensual-desire element (kāmadhātu), the latent tendency of lust for existence and the latent tendency of repulsion do not lie latent for that person there, but it is not the case that the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent for that person there. For that same person in the unincluded (apariyāpanna), the latent tendency of lust for existence does not lie latent for that person there, and the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent. For two persons in painful feeling, the latent tendency of lust for existence, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent for those persons there, but it is not the case that the latent tendency of repulsion does not lie latent for them there. For those same persons in the two feelings in the sensual-desire element, the latent tendency of lust for existence, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent for them there, but it is not the case that the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of conceit do not lie latent for them there. For those same persons in the unincluded, the latent tendency of lust for existence does not lie latent for them there, and the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent. For a non-returner (anāgāmī) in the two feelings in the sensual-desire element, the latent tendency of lust for existence, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent for that person there, but it is not the case that the latent tendency of conceit does not lie latent for that person there. For that same person in painful feeling and in the unincluded, the latent tendency of lust for existence does not lie latent for that person there, and the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt do not lie latent. For an Arahant, everywhere …
