[134] Now at that time bhikkhus conferred the full ordination (upasampadā) on one who had no bowl. They walked for alms receiving food in their hands. People criticized, complained, and spread it about, saying, "Just like the sectarians (titthiyā)!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, one who has no bowl is not to be given the full ordination. Whoever should confer it commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
Now at that time bhikkhus conferred the full ordination on one who had no robe. They walked naked for alms. People criticized, complained, and spread it about, saying, "Just like the sectarians!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, one who has no robe is not to be given the full ordination. Whoever should confer it commits an offense of wrong-doing."
Now at that time bhikkhus conferred the full ordination on one who had neither bowl nor robe. They walked naked for alms, receiving food in their hands. People criticized, complained, and spread it about, saying, "Just like the sectarians!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, one who has neither bowl nor robe is not to be given the full ordination. Whoever should confer it commits an offense of wrong-doing."
Now at that time bhikkhus conferred the full ordination with a borrowed bowl. When the person had been ordained, they gave the bowl back. The bhikkhus walked for alms receiving food in their hands. People criticized, complained, and spread it about, saying, "Just like the sectarians!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, the full ordination is not to be given with a borrowed bowl. Whoever should confer it commits an offense of wrong-doing."
Now at that time bhikkhus conferred the full ordination with a borrowed robe. When the person had been ordained, they gave the robe back. The bhikkhus walked naked for alms. People criticized, complained, and spread it about, saying, "Just like the sectarians!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, the full ordination is not to be given with a borrowed robe. Whoever should confer it commits an offense of wrong-doing."
Now at that time bhikkhus conferred the full ordination with a borrowed bowl and robe. When the person had been ordained, they gave the bowl and robe back. The bhikkhus walked naked for alms, receiving food in their hands. People criticized, complained, and spread it about, saying, "Just like the sectarians!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, the full ordination is not to be given with a borrowed bowl and robe. Whoever should confer it commits an offense of wrong-doing."
