[139] Now at that time the Venerable Mahākassapa had a candidate for full ordination (upasampadāpekkha). Then the Venerable Mahākassapa sent a messenger to the Venerable Ānanda, saying: "Let Ānanda come; he will make the proclamation for this one." The Venerable Ānanda said thus: "I am not able to utter the Elder's name; the Elder is one whom I revere." They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, I allow the proclamation to be made by the clan name (gotta) also."
