[171] Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus performed an act not in accordance with the Dhamma (adhammakamma) in the midst of the Saṅgha. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. He said: "Bhikkhus, an act not in accordance with the Dhamma is not to be performed in the midst of the Saṅgha; whoever should perform one commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
They performed the act not in accordance with the Dhamma all the same. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. He said: "Bhikkhus, I allow you to protest when an act not in accordance with the Dhamma is being performed."
Now at that time well-behaved bhikkhus (pesalā) protested when an act not in accordance with the Dhamma was being performed by the group-of-six bhikkhus. The group-of-six bhikkhus conceived resentment, conceived displeasure, and threatened them with violence. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. He said: "Bhikkhus, I allow you also to make known your view (diṭṭhi)."
