[174] Now at that time the bhikkhus of the group of six, without being invited, recited the Pātimokkha in the midst of the Saṅgha. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, the Pātimokkha should not be recited in the midst of the Saṅgha by one who has not been invited; whoever should recite it commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). I allow, bhikkhus, the Pātimokkha to be in the charge of the Elder (therādhikaṃ¹)."
¹ [Editorial note in the Siam Raṭṭha edition:] The Sinhalese edition reads *therādheyyaṃ*. *Therādhikaṃ* means: to be dependent upon the Elder, subject to the Elder. The commentary on this states that *therādheyyaṃ* is also a reading.
