[42] Then Brahmā Sahampati, when the night was far advanced, of surpassing radiance, illuminating the entire forest grove, approached the Blessed One; having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One and stood to one side, like a great mass of fire, more excellent and more sublime than the previous radiances.
Then, when that night had passed, Uruvelakassapa the matted-hair ascetic (jaṭila) approached the Blessed One; having approached, he said this to the Blessed One: "It is time, Great Ascetic; the meal is ready. Who was that, Great Ascetic, who, when the night was far advanced, of surpassing radiance, illuminating the entire forest grove, approached you; and having approached, paid homage to you and stood to one side, like a great mass of fire, more excellent and more sublime than the previous radiances?"
"That, Kassapa, was Brahmā Sahampati, who approached me in order to hear the Dhamma."
Then this occurred to Uruvelakassapa the matted-hair ascetic: "The Great Ascetic is indeed of great psychic power (iddhi), of great might, in that even Brahmā Sahampati comes to him in order to hear the Dhamma. Yet he is certainly not an arahant (arahā) as I am."
Then the Blessed One, having eaten the meal of Uruvelakassapa the matted-hair ascetic, dwelt in that same forest grove.
