[50] Now at that time a great unseasonal storm cloud poured down rain, and a great flood of water arose. The place where the Blessed One was dwelling was covered over with water. Then it occurred to the Blessed One: "Suppose I were to make the water recede all around and walk in meditation in the middle on dust-covered ground." Then the Blessed One made the water recede all around and walked in meditation in the middle on dust-covered ground. Then the jaṭila Uruvelakassapa, thinking, "Let it not be that the Great Ascetic has been swept away by the water!" went by boat, together with a good many jaṭilas, to the place where the Blessed One was dwelling. The jaṭila Uruvelakassapa saw the Blessed One, who had made the water recede all around, walking in meditation in the middle on dust-covered ground; and seeing him, he said to the Blessed One: "Are you here, Great Ascetic?" "Yes, Kassapa, it is I," said the Blessed One; and rising up into the air, he alighted upon the boat. Then it occurred to the jaṭila Uruvelakassapa: "The Great Ascetic is truly of great psychic power (iddhi), of great might, inasmuch as even the water will not sweep him away. Yet he is certainly not an arahant like me."
